Our first image is purely a sample. 2 Using a paint digital program (we have used Paint X) begin by drawing the geological layers. Choose a fine black drawing tool for this. There is no correct answer as to how the lines are drawn. Simply note the lines are rarely straight. Ensure the lines go to the end of the page so that closed areas are formed (for colouring purposes). 3 Being an abstract form of art, colour in each layer different colours. Choose a paint can tool for this. 4 Next choose different textures and brush types to cover each of the colours with a different pattern. These may include spray can style, bubbles, dots, short lines, arrows, swirls etc. Choose a contrasting colour to the layer you are placing the pattern on. 5 Once all the layers are covered with patterns, the image can be printed and placed around the room as a display or placed in a child’s workbook/folder.
