Channel Classics CCS SA 27408 Concertos Musical director: Matthew Halls "Dynamic subtlety and euphonious tuning make this a hypnotic album, one to set on repeat." (The Star Ledger) The theme of Holland Baroque’s first album is Europe, for Georg Muffat is a European avant la lettre. The style of the concertos on this album is called Gemischter Geschmack (mixed flavours). Here, Muffat combines the achievements of the French, German and Italian music traditions. For their first album, Holland Baroque worked with harpsichord player, organ player and conductor Matthew Halls. This English musician graduated at Oxford University and has been performing with many prominent ensembles and orchestras ever since, and he is the artistic director of the Retrospect Ensemble.
