The Rias Baixas region has produced wines from the Albariño grape for centuries, but it wasn't until 1988, when Gerardo Méndez and 13 of his friends and colleagues utilized their wines to show the Spanish government that what they had was special and deserved official recognition. Highly regarded for crafting world-class white wines from Albariño with incredible transparency, flavor, and depth, Méndez's Do Ferreiro label has become a reference point for the variety, and I've loved it since the first time I tasted it. Hand-harvested from tiny plots in the heart of the Salnés subzone of Rías Baixas, whose proximity to the ocean and decomposed granite soil allows for the production of wines with profound depth and the ability to further develop in bottle, the wine shows strong minerality with notes of sea spray, herbs, peaches, and ruby grapefruit. It's a graceful but generous wine I am sure you will adore. 12.5% ABV
