The Giant Dwarf Papyrus Plant (Cyperus percamenthus) is an excellent plant for water gardeners that love the look of the Giant Papyrus Plant (Cyperus papyrus) but lack the space for these botanical giants. Due to its odd common name, the Giant Dwarf Papyrus Plant Cyperus percamenthus is sometimes also known as the "Oxymoron Papyrus." As one may deduce, the Giant Dwarf Papyrus Plant (Cyperus percamenthus) shares attributes of both the Dwarf Papyrus Plant (Cyperus haspans) and the true Giant Papyrus Plant (Cyperus papyrus). While the mature height and compact growth habit of Giant Dwarf Papyrus Plant is similar to that of the Dwarf Papyrus (Cyperus haspans), the general appearance and showy, dramatic tufts it produces is more akin to the Giant Papyrus (Cyperus papyrus). Due to its manageable size, the Giant Dwarf Papyrus Plant makes an excellent accent plant for decks and patios when planted in tubs or kettles and set in full sun to partial shade. The Giant Dwarf Papyrus Plant is a moisture-loving plant so be sure to keep the roots constantly wet when treated as a house plant or accent plant. When adding the Giant Dwarf Papyrus Plant to your pond or water garden, pot the Giant Dwarf Papyrus Plant in a 2-gallon planting container and set the planter in your pond so it is covered by up to 4 inches of water. The Giant Dwarf Papyrus Plant has a typical spread of at least 12". Keep in mind that in warm Southern climates, the Giant Dwarf Papyrus Plant will tend to spread when planted directly at the pond edge. For a "tidier" presentation, be sure to pot the Giant Dwarf Papyrus Plant in a planting container.
