Description In the early 60's, Gibson put forward their newly redesigned SJ, replacing the iconic slope shouldered J-45 with the Dove-inspired square-shouldered design. Introduced at the beginning of what would be one of the most prolific times in rock history, the SJ and similar Gibson models put its indelible tonal stamp on the sound of the 60's. This 1964 SJ is a perfect example of that sound and vibe. With its slightly more robust build quality, the SJ delights on a purely visceral level. Something about its warmth, the chunky chordal response and its throaty bass exudes a warm familiarity, like you just put on a favorite classic rock LP with all the crackles and hiss! Despite its strong association with acoustic rock, quite a few flatpickers enjoy the throaty, rhythmic chunk of these SJ's. Condition is very good. The original adjustable ceramic saddle has been replaced with bone and the tuners are non-original Kluson replacements. It also had an early Barcus Berry soundboard pickup installed with strap jack. Action is standard with fully functioning truss rod and saddle height remaining for further adjustments.
