Here we have a delightful pair of mini antique brooches from Carlo Giuliano.The first showcases a quatrefoil motif enamelled in white and blue with a silver set old cut diamond at the centre. This focal design is then flanked on either side by a single round shaped moonstone.The second presents an open framework consisting of a square shaped emerald at the centre and a round faceted ruby at either end.Each piece has been crafted from 15ct yellow gold and is made complete by a c clasp fastening on the reverse side. Giuliano came to London in about 1860. Little biographical detail is known of him prior to this except that he very likely trained under and worked for Castellani in Rome.Once settled, he set up a workshop to manufacture jewellery at 13 Frith Street in Soho likely in collaboration with Castellani.
