Introducing the Kawai GL-30 Baby Grand Piano The first model in the Kawai range to be produced at the main production facility in Hamamatsu, Japan, the 5'5" long Kawai GL-30 baby grand piano delivers a significant step up in tonal quality from the entry level GL-10. With longer string length and a larger soundboard area, along with technical refinements such as duplex scaling, these combined enhancements enable the GL-30 to produce a much richer and more resonant tone. The GL-30 utilises Kawai's proprietary Millennium III ABS-carbon action for superfast response and lasting accuracy, while also benefiting from an extra beam in the backframe - the GL-30 has three instead of two as found in the smaller GL-10. This enhanced structural ridigity minimises energy loss as the piano vibrates, ensuring as much energy as possible is translated into sound. Also available with ATX4 'Anytime' Technology - allowing you to practice privately using headphones, at any time of day or night without disturbing others. Dominic Barnett – Chamberlain Pianos Millennium III Action The ground-breaking Millennium III Action utilises components made of ABS-Carbon—a composite material infused with carbon fibre. ABS-Carbon is incredibly strong and rigid, meaning that GL Series action parts can be made lighter without sacrificing strength. The result is a stronger, faster action that offers more power, better control and greater stability than conventional all-wood actions. Tapered, solid spruce soundboard The purpose of the soundboard is to transform the vibrations of the piano’s strings into a rich, resounding tone. Kawai uses only straight-grained, quarter-sawn solid spruce for GL Series soundboards. Each one is strategically tapered to provide the optimum degree of resonant movement in each region. Only soundboards that meet or exceed Kawai's demanding resonance standards are selected for use in the GL Series grand pianos. Soft-closing fallboard While the entry-level grand piano series, the Kawai GL range also benefits from a soft-closing lid or fallboard. A luxurious feature previously only high end instruments and means no more trapped fingers! Stretcher Overlap Integrated Design (SOLID) SOLID construction creates an exceptionally rigid foundation to support string tension. First, the pinblock is fitted to the plate. Then, the pinblock and over-lapping stretcher bar are integrated into a single structure and solidly anchored to the rim. The extraordinary thickness of the stretcher bar highlights the structural integrity of this framework designed to ensure stable tuning and powerful tone.
