An elastic band at the waist ensures a neat and durable finish. A decorative seam runs along the sides. The skirt is worked from the top down. First, stitches are cast on using a provisional cast-on. A waistband is knitted, and then an elastic band is inserted at the waist. The skirt is first shaped with Japanese short rows (fully explained in the pattern), while side increases are initiated. Next the skirt is worked in the round on circular needles, with increases. The hem is finished with a double-folded edge. Finally, the decorative seams are sewn along both sides of the skirt.
