A fine quality sterling silver glasses case. This wonderful object is very tactile in the hand having hand over one hundred forty years of use. It is a thick gauge of silver and a fine sturdy closure to the lid. The inside of the case is richly gilded in yellow gold giving the interior this warm golden hue. There are two pairs of hinges that would allow elastic to be stitched between them to prevent the contents from falling out, once opened. These can easily be re-attached with new elastic, if desired. The case has two full set of English assay marks. The piece was made in London, England in 1870. The piece was made by silversmith Thomas Whitehouse.
