These small objects seemed very precious to me; I considered them my secret treasure. Growing up, moving to France and becoming a photographer have made me someone who works very methodically when I create my works. Everything is thought out down to the smallest details. However, a few years ago, I started taking pictures without worrying about a concept, without a specific working method. I collected small scenes of life, everyday objects, anything that caught my attention. I now collect these images intuitively as I did objects when I was a child. Using the ancient technique of orotone and working on small formats, I cut and polish these treasures, transforming them into delicate diamonds. Observing these scenes of simplicity is like a treasure hunt for me. This approach is akin to gleaning. This series was named “Glanage” in reference to Jean-François Millet’s painting “Des glaneuses” and in homage to my ancestors, farmers in Japan. I want to continue this series until the end... The more it grows, the more it resembles a golden Milky Way, a common thread throughout my life." Naohiro Ninomiya
