Vinko Globokar – composer, interpreter and improviser – polemicizes against a virtuosity that merely “develops muscles and produces perspiration.” He expects musicians to think abo ut the score before beginning to play. On the basis of the mental process they should develop gestures that will produce the sound. Naturally these gestures often are very complex and place high demands on speed, dexterity, and sensitivity.
