Gloriosa carsonii is a deciduous woodland vine that hails from much of East Africa, but is prized ornamentally around the world. From a thickened root, Gloriosa emerges in spring w ith green stems that attach it to nearby vertical structures via tendrils. The 8' long, deciduous vine is home to flowers that resemble a hovering bird...yellow petals, highlighted by a dramatic central purple pattern down the center. For us, Gloriosa carsonii starts flowering in mid-June and continues most of the summer. Slightly moist, sandy loam soils seem to work well. Show more
