Glossostigma elatinoides is one of the finest foreground carpeting plants in the aquarium hobby, producing tiny, spoon-shaped leaves that hug the substrate in an immaculate low carpet. Native to New Zealand, it is a plant most commonly seen in meticulously maintained nature aquarium layouts and aquascaping competition tanks where a refined, seamless foreground is central to the design.It is a demanding species that requires bright light and CO2 injection to form the dense, compact carpet it is known for. Under inadequate light it grows upward rather than laterally, losing the flat carpeting habit that makes it desirable.
