The Gloster Gladiator (or Gloster SS.37) was a British biplane fighter aircraft designed and produced by the Gloster Aircraft Company. Introduced into the Royal Air Force (RAF) in 1937, it holds a unique place in aviation history as the RAF's first enclosed-cockpit fighter and its last operational biplane fighter. A total of 747 Gloster Gladiators (including the naval Sea Gladiator variant) were built between 1935 and 1940. Of this total, 483 were produced for the RAF, 98 for the Royal Navy, and 216 were exported to 13 different countries.
