Cellerini has been making leather goods in a first-floor atelier on Via del Sole, in central Florence, since the late 1950s. Among the smaller pieces the workshop puts together are a few made for the round of golf - and this is one of them. A small drawstring pouch in smooth calfskin, sized to hold three or four golf balls comfortably and to close tight at the top with a leather cord. The shape is the one the form has always been: a flat panel of leather, gathered at the mouth, soft enough to fold flat when empty and to take the shape of what is inside it when full. Hand-stitched at the seam. It tucks into a side pocket of the bag, or rides in a jacket pocket, or ties to a strap by its own cord. Hand-cut and hand-stitched on the bench in Florence.
