An original hand-coloured etching of the Brent Goose (Brent Bernicle) from Prideaux John Selby's Illustrations of British Ornithology, printed on Whatman paper with an 1827 waterma rk. Selby aka, the English Audubon — produced this series from specimens in his own collection, and they remain the first life-sized illustrations of British birds ever published. The colour is bright and unfaded, the paper has slight creasing and a small tear as pictured. A genuinely scarce plate from one of the landmark works in ornithological publishing history.
