About the fibre Staple length 80-150mm. Micron count 30-34. Medium to medium-coarse 100g/bag Gotland wool is known for its lustre and softness. The fibre is also curly and has some similarity to mohair. It is a bit slippery and drafts quickly, and may present a challenge for first-time spinners to get a cohesive yarn. This wool is suitable for spinning and felting. Abou the breed Gotland is a Sweden's largest island, known mostly to outsiders as a great tourist destination. Right at home in its picturesque landscapes is the Gotland breed of sheep, which was established in the 1920's and 30's as a result of the crossbreedling of the sheep native to the island (the Gute) with introduced breeds from Northern Europe such as the Karakul and the Romanov.
