Created in 1866 by two brothers in the Southern French village of Thuir, Byrrh (Pronounced beer) is a French aperitif produced from red and fortified wines along with cinchona. The wine was original sold as a health beverage—an attempt by the brothers to not stir the pot with the other aperitif producers in the region—but no one was fooled, and this aromatized wine quickly became of hit world-wide.
