Walking through Grand Central Terminal is exhilarating and, in some ways, an enchanting experience. Although I had been in Grand Central Station many times before, it was never to photograph. In photographing this space, I entered the main area and stood in awe for several minutes just absorbing the energy and kineticism. I marveled at the effusive volume of people in the terminal as well as the hustle and bustle that is so much a part of Grand Central Terminal. My initial thought was, how do I photograph this important landmark in a way that conveys what I was seeing and feeling? I needed to show movement and to accomplish this I decided to use a very slow shutter speed. I selected a shutter speed that would provide for a deliberate blur of people in motion while leaving those standing still in focus. While photographing, it occurred to me that Grand Central Terminal does not merely carry people to their destinations but, in reality, transports their lives. Grand Central Terminal is truly a very special place in New York City.
