Grange 4 Ledged Internal Rustic Oak Bead and Butt DoorThe Grange is a four-ledged rustic oak barn door, a flat-fronted board door with real character. It is one of our oak barn doors, built from upright oak boards held by four horizontal ledges, with no diagonal braces, so the boards and the natural grain carry the look.Each Grange door is made from specially kiln-dried rustic-grade solid oak at a low 6 to 10% moisture content for stability. Rustic grade shows the grain, knots and tone variations that make every door unique, so no two doors are exactly the same, and the knots and colour movement are part of the appeal rather than a flaw. It is this natural variation, rather than a printed or uniform finish, that gives the Grange its country character.The traditional four-ledge construction gives the door strength and stability across its width. As a barn-style door it uses ledges rather than diagonal braces, which keeps the face plain and even, so the boards and the grain carry the look. Because the oak is rustic and hand-selected, the number and width of the boards varies a little from door to door.The boards are finished with a bead and butt profile, where a rounded bead runs along each joint for a softer, traditional line. It is worked into the same solid oak boards, so it adds texture and depth to the face without changing how the door is built.Being solid oak all the way through, rather than an oak face over a manufactured core, the door can be sanded back and re-treated over its life, and trimmed a little to fit an opening. Oak moves slightly with the seasons, so leave a small gap for expansion when fitting.A barn door like this suits traditional T-hinges, the long strap hinge that runs across the ledges and matches the plain board face. It is also available in made-to-measure sizes for a non-standard opening.The Grange is supplied unfinished and sanded, ready for a suitable hardwax oil such as Treatex. If you would rather it arrived finished, our in-house oiling service will pre-treat it for you before delivery. Oak needs a finish to protect it and bring out the grain, so seal all faces, including the top and bottom edges, which are the ones most often missed.
