Grape agate is a trade name for a rare, purple form of botryoidal chalcedony, not a true agate, named for its clusters of tiny, grape-like spheres that form in volcanic cavities, p rimarily found in Sulawesi, Indonesia. These beautiful mineral formations are actually microcrystalline quartz with colors from lavender to deep purple, sometimes with green hues, formed from silica-rich fluids crystallizing slowly over millions of years.
