Ford's adaptation of John Steinbeck's The Grapes of Wrath stars Henry Fonda as Tom Joad and follows the Joad family as they leave Oklahoma during the Great Depression and travel west to California.Tobacco Road, released the following year, was adapted from Erskine Caldwell's novel and the long-running stage version, with a cast including Charley Grapewin, Gene Tierney and Dana Andrews.
