The motion picture details their arduous journey across the United States as they travel to California in search of work and opportunities for the family members. The film is widely considered to be one of the greatest American films of all time. Tobacco Road is a 1941 film directed by John Ford and starring Charley Grapewin, Marjorie Grapewin, Gene Tierney, William Tracy, Dana Andrews and Ward Bond. It was based on the noel of the same name by Erskine Caldwall and the Broadway play that Jack Kirkland adapted from the novel.
