A highly drought-tolerant plant from the Mediterranean, Gray Santolina is also called Lavender Cotton. It's blooms are not purple though.....they're bright yellow in mid-summer (Ju ly and August) popping up from a base of aromatic, gray foliage. It likes hot, dry areas so it will do great as a low-growing groundcover on Western and Southern facing slopes, where soil moisture can easily drain away, leaving the roots drier and plenty of sun to avoid fungal issues from high humidity. Give it a trim in early spring, and again after it blooms.
