Atlas Cedar (Cedrus atlantica) are native to the Atlas Mountains of North Africa and are valued for their short needles and lush green foliage. With the right training, they are capable of becoming a bonsai with elegant structure, beautiful foliage and rugged bark. Of the genus 'Cedrus' these are considered true cedars. They are best adapted to hot and dry summer climates but tolerate a wide range of conditions. Eric thinks of them as the "White Pine of the Mediterranean" because many white pine species have similar character but don't grow well in these climates. These trees have been pre-wired in most cases to have movement suitable to a small composition. If you prefer less movement or a particular type, please leave us a note in the comment field on the cart page. They are growing in 4x6" Anderson bands, which have a bottom that is largely open. Once you receive them we recommend you transfer to a gallon or larger container if you plan to grow them on. Potting down can be done during your normal repotting window.
