This pattern was originally created for use at Buda Castle (also known as the Royal Palace) during the reign of Francis Joseph I who was Emperor of Austria and King of Hungary. Ini tially created in the 1870s, it consisted of a golden laurel wreath branch and bore the monogram of Francis Joseph as well as the Hungarian Crown.
