Green-Stop is a corrosion inhibitor for copper and brass, designed for radiator repair shops and manufacturers to prevent the “green” corrosion and pinhole pitting that forms on parts stored in an often-acidic shop atmosphere. It works well on other copper and brass parts too, with little or no effect on other metals. How it helps Green corrosion is driven by moisture/humidity, chemical residue on the metal, and corrosive fumes in the air. You can reduce it four ways: store parts dry, rinse/neutralize chemical residues, keep parts away from flux and acid fumes, and use a corrosion inhibitor like Green-Stop. A good inhibitor may reduce or even eliminate the need for the first three measures depending on conditions — and will always improve the situation. Repair shops can dip rebuilt radiators, complete heaters, repaired cores, heater blocks, cleaned and tinned tanks, and brass oil coolers held for future use. To prevent pitting inside brass tubes, the solution must completely wet the insides. Manufacturers using a non-corrosive, low-residue flux have less corrosion to begin with, but in humid climates Green-Stop is a great help. It’s supplied as a highly concentrated liquid for economy, based on a proven inhibitor system used successfully for many years. Directions Mix 2 ounces per gallon of water — enough to fully immerse the parts. Before immersing, rinse parts free of flux, acid, and caustic residue (a neutralizer/cleaner may be needed in severe cases). Immerse to wet the entire surface inside and out, with no trapped air pockets. Remove, drain, and air-dry away from flux and acid fumes. Replace the solution when it looks cloudy or dirty — typically about 100 parts per batch. Test kits are available to check inhibitor strength and correct for evaporation. Treated parts stay free of green corrosion and pitting far longer than untreated parts — up to a year or more depending on humidity and fumes.
