π Labuk Bay Proboscis Sanctuary, Borneo Proboscis monkeys move through the world in family groups, and the young ones move with them the way young things do, which is to say very close to their mothers, and with at least one hand on something solid. This one has found the best possible handhold. It sits just behind the curve of its mother's back, one small fist wrapped around her side, and looks out at the world from that position with eyes that are taking everything in. The mother faces away. The baby faces forward. Between them, the arrangement is working exactly as intended. There is a whole world out there. The hand stays where it is anyway.
