About This Design The Disability Pride Flag was created to raise awareness, and has become a symbol of solidarity, acceptance and pride. Disability Pride Month is celebrated in the United States in July, the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). According to Columbia University, the original design was created by writer Ann Magill, who has cerebral palsy. The design was refined as a collaborative effort to better represent the community.
