GRL PWR confronts the tension between empowerment and imposed identity through the language inscribed directly onto the body. In a tightly cropped composition, two tattoos face each other across the same skin: "GRL PWR" on one side, "PUTA" on the other, affirmation and condemnation held simultaneously. Rather than choosing between these two readings of femininity, Sutera Sardo places them in coexistence. Delicate floral lace heightens the tension between vulnerability and agency, softness and confrontation. The body here is not passive subject but site of negotiation, holding contradictory cultural projections while asserting its own terms. Carla Sutera Sardo is a self-taught photographer based in Agrigento, Sicily. Her practice focuses on the female figure within landscape and domestic space, and her work has been published in Vogue Italia and L'Œil de la Photographie and recognized by the Sony World Photography Awards.
