Planting: Start by choosing an area with full sun for Ground Cherry – about 6 to 8 hours of sunlight per day (though the Cherry will tolerate some shade). The plant also thrives in a variety of soil types, but well-drained soil is important. Ensure that you’ve selected a space where you can plant your Ground Cherries about 18 to 24 inches apart.If you’re planting outside, dig a hole that’s about one and a half to two times the width of the plant’s root ball. Place your plant, back fill the soil and water to settle the roots. Staking the plant for extra support is also helpful.Generally, you’ll follow the same directions when container planting – select a pot that’s approximately one and a half to two times the width of your shipped container and plant from there.2. Watering: Water your Ground Cherry weekly for best results – the soil should be moist but not oversaturated. Water as soon as the top 2 inches of your soil is dry.3. Fertilizing: Fertilizer for your Ground Cherry should not be necessary, unless you notice slower growth. If you do fertilize your Cherry, do so with a well-balanced blend before new growth begins in the spring.4. Harvesting: Ground Cherries produce fruit in husks, similar to their relative: The Tomatillo. When the husks turn brown and papery, the berries are ready to harvest and often drop off your plant when they’re ready. Remove the husks and enjoy!
