Guinness Foreign Extra Stout 325ml: Bold, Intense and Brewed for AdventureGuinness Foreign Extra Stout is not your everyday pint. This is the bolder, stronger sibling of the classic Guinness Draught, brewed under licence by Guinness Nigeria PLC at the St. James's Gate-affiliated brewery in Lagos, Nigeria, and imported into the UK for those who know exactly what they want from a stout. At 7.5% ABV in a 325ml bottle, it delivers a concentrated hit of roasted malt character that is richer and more assertive than anything you will find in a standard can from the supermarket chiller. If you have been searching for imported African and international drinks that genuinely stand apart from the mainstream, this is one to add to your basket without hesitation. The colour is a deep, near-opaque mahogany black, and the aroma opens with dark roasted barley, a whisper of coffee, and a faint bittersweet chocolate note that lingers in the glass. On the palate, the extra hops used in the Foreign Extra recipe come through clearly: there is a firm, clean bitterness that balances the sweetness of the malt without tipping into harshness. The body is full and slightly creamy, with a dry finish that invites the next sip. This is a stout with genuine complexity, the kind that rewards you if you take a moment rather than rushing through it. Established in 1759, the Guinness name carries centuries of brewing knowledge, and the Foreign Extra Stout recipe was originally developed to survive long sea voyages, which is why it is brewed with more hops and a higher alcohol content than the draught version. That heritage is still very much present in every bottle. Each 325ml bottle contains 2.4 UK units of alcohol. The label carries the UK Chief Medical Officers' recommendation not to regularly exceed 14 units per week, and the bottle is clearly marked 18+ with a prominent drink responsibly message. Ingredients include water, sorghum, malt, barley (gluten), roasted barley (gluten), and hops. Please note this product contains gluten and is not suitable for those with coeliac disease or a gluten intolerance. Store in a cool, dark place and serve chilled for the best experience. How to Serve Guinness Foreign Extra StoutServe this stout straight from the fridge at around 6 to 8 degrees Celsius. Pour slowly into a clean, room-temperature glass, tilting the glass at a 45-degree angle and straightening it as the glass fills. Allow the head to settle for a minute before drinking. Unlike nitro-widget cans, this bottle-conditioned stout will form a natural head that is slightly looser and more carbonated, which is entirely correct for the Foreign Extra style. At the table, Guinness Foreign Extra Stout pairs exceptionally well with slow-cooked beef stews, jerk chicken, suya, egusi soup, and grilled lamb chops. The roasted bitterness cuts through rich, fatty dishes and complements smoky, spiced marinades beautifully. It also works well alongside strong aged cheeses, dark chocolate desserts, and oysters if you want to go the classic route. For a West African-inspired pairing, try it alongside fried plantain and pepper soup: the contrast between the stout's dry finish and the heat of the soup is genuinely satisfying. You can also use it as a braising liquid for beef short ribs or oxtail, where it adds depth and a subtle bitterness to the sauce. Browse our sauces and condiments range for ingredients to build those kinds of dishes at home.If you are hosting and want to offer something a little different from the usual lager options, a chilled bottle of Guinness Foreign Extra Stout alongside a spread of spiced snacks makes for a confident, considered choice. It is the kind of beer that prompts conversation, because most guests will not have tried this particular variant before, even if they are familiar with the Guinness brand. Why Shop for International Drinks at Asian Grocery UKAsian Grocery UK stocks a wide range of imported beverages that you simply will not find on the shelves of a standard British supermarket.
