Why This Watch Matters Let's get Gyromatic. The Full Story Girard-Perregaux was founded in 1791, and among the countless designs it has released over more than two centuries, some of its most famous creations include the three-bridge tourbillon and the Laureato sport watch series. When the Gryomatic was released in 1957, it was intended to be Girard-Perregaux's answer for a reliable automatic movement. Girard-Perregaux developed a system by which a self-winding module could be added to an existing manual movement. The system utilized a unidirectional winding system that relied on two "Gyrotron" wheels with rubies, instead of ball bearings, intended to prevent wear and friction. We have been lucky enough to offer a few really interesting Gyromatic examples in the past, however, this one has to be the best (sorry other Gyros, you're all loved). With salmon-esque dial tone and thick bezel, the look is precisely vintage feeling. While the price point may suggest Gyromatics were bargain bin scores, handling these watches in the metal is a whole different experience. Every detail is consistently well-thought-out and well-executed – to an impressive level really. The case has a few light scratches and handling marks. The bezel has a few light marks such as at 6 o'clock. The caseback has a few scratches from opening but remains in good condition. The crown appears to be gold plated to match the dial details and shows some regular wear while presenting nicely. The dial is in good condition with patina throughout that presents as a light gold or salmon tone. The hour markers have developed a light patina. The hands show some oxidation that is in line with the age of the watch. The inside caseback is signed by Girard-Perregaux as well as the movement and dial.
