Every year, I have the privilege of volunteering at the magical Hakalau National Forest Reserve, where some of the last old growth Hawaiian forest still stands. Here, branches lined with lichen and moss and entwined with sweet maile vines give shelter to some of the rarest and most beautiful birds in the world. This nerikoh is my attempt to capture this sacred place. Hawaiian sandalwood/ 'iliahi blends with maile, wild-gathered lichens, mosses, and blue gum eucalyptus: a whisper of forest sweetened with umeboshi plum, Hawaiian honey, and benzoin Siam. Ingredients: Hawaiian sandalwood/ 'iliahi, maile vine and leaves, blue gum eucalyptus leaves, lichen, moss, benzoin Siam resin, umeboshi plum, and Hawaiian honey. Tin contains 6 nerikoh to be used on an incense warmer or coal.
