Halima, born in 1955 in Bula Pesa village, Isiolo County, has endured a life of trials and hardships. As the second-born among three siblings, she spent her childhood assisting with small-scale farming and household chores. However, at just 10 years old, her childhood was cut short when she was forced into marriage with an older man.Despite these circumstances, Halima embraced her role as a wife and mother. She and her husband were blessed with four children—two boys and two girls. While her husband worked as a driver to provide for the family, Halima remained at home, caring for their children. However, tragedy struck when her husband passed away after a short illness, leaving her as the sole provider for her family.Determined to support her children, Halima found work as a maid, later securing employment at the same agricultural farm where her husband had once worked. Earning only KES 300 per month, she used her meager income to educate her children to secondary school level. Despite her sacrifices, none of them were able to secure employment.As the years passed, life continued to test Halima. She lost her job, leaving her without a stable source of income. Her struggles deepened when her married daughter passed away, leaving behind grandchildren under Halima’s care. With no way to provide for them, she faced extreme hardship.Halima’s life took a turn for the better when she learned about Mama Ibado Charity. Recognizing her dire situation, the charity welcomed her into its Seniors Feeding Program. For the past seven years, Halima has received monthly food rations, ensuring she and her grandchildren no longer go hungry. This support has brought her immense relief and renewed hope.Halima’s story is one of resilience and survival, but many other seniors in Isiolo face similar challenges.
