This recording was prepared using the edition published by Novello, edited by Watkins Shaw. However I have ignored all of his editorial suggestions for changes to rhythm. While man y of these seem eminently justified there are plenty that are arguable and I felt it best to stick to the source and let performers make up their own mind. I have also ignored most of Shaw's suggestions for ornaments. In the second aria, number 17 'Angels ever bright and fair', I have taken the opportunity of the 'Dal segno' to include Shaw's emendations in the repeat. Show more
