At JTA, it is a semi-regular occurrence that we are forced to discontinue a tool due to the retirement of the blacksmith that makes them. Imagine our joy, then, to be able to work with a young smith who has chosen to enter the craft, looking for interesting and challenging tools to establish their name with. Enter Zero-san, who is the first smith to graduate from Sanjo blacksmith dojo's teaching program. We have commissioned Zero-san to make one of our most requested, but until now unavailable, tools - the drawknife. And what a gorgeous job he has done on it! Made entirely from SK5 steel, Zero-san has hammered the top face of the knife to give it the necessary curve both along the blade edge and from front to back. The front and back of the bevel have been sharpened and brought to a high polish. The white oak handles are simple and comfortable, and have been riveted on for longevity.
