Planting & Care 1. Planting: Select an area with full sun (anywhere that receives 6 to 8 hours of sunlight per day) for your Happy Returns daylily. To plant in the ground, select an area with well-drained soil, dig a hole large enough to accommodate the root ball, then place your plant. Finally, backfill the soil and water the area to settle the roots.
