Hapstone Lapping Kit Float glass and silicon carbide powders for flattening and lapping sharpening stones Kit Everything needed for lapping Hapstone Lapping Kit includes 10" × 4" × 1/2" (250×100×12 mm) float glass for lapping stones and three 100g bottles of silicon carbide lapping powders: F280 grit coarse, F400 grit medium and F600 grit fine. Lapping Side Etched for more aggressive work One side of the glass is etched to be used with lapping powders to flatten sharpening stones. The 0.5 mm etching makes the plate more aggressive and allows swarf runoff, minimizing stiction on finer grit stones. Reference Side Smooth and perfectly flat The other side is perfectly smooth and flat. It can accommodate a half wide sheet of full sized sand paper or lapping film, and can be used as a reference plate for knives, chisels and planes. how to use Simple lapping process To use the lapping side of the plate, wet the surface of the glass, but don't pool any water. Lightly sprinkle the desired powder grit evenly across the surface. Pre soak your stones if necessary, then mark the surface of the stone with a grid pattern in pencil. Lap with even pressure using an X pattern until pencil marks are removed.
