Hand-built in our North Carolina shop from solid American hard rock maple, this end grain cutting board is finished with all-natural, food-grade mineral oil and beeswax and backed by our lifetime guarantee. Why an end grain cutting board? On an end grain board you cut into the ends of the wood fibers rather than across them. The fibers part as the blade passes and close back up behind it — which is why end grain construction has been the standard in professional kitchens and butcher shops for well over a century. Far easier on your knives. The blade slips between the wood fibers instead of scraping across them, so your edges stay sharp dramatically longer than they do on plastic, glass, bamboo, or edge grain boards. A self-healing surface. Knife marks close back up instead of accumulating as scars and grooves, so the board keeps looking good and gives bacteria nowhere to settle. Built to last generations. With basic care, an end grain board is a once-in-a-lifetime kitchen purchase rather than something you replace every few years. That checkerboard figure. Every block shows its own growth rings, which is why an end grain board earns its spot on the counter as much for how it looks as for what it does.
