This harpoon became a whaling standard and replaced the fixed-point "two flue" and "single flue" harpoons that were widely used previously. The New Bedford Whaling Museum has one of only a few Temple toggle irons that is known to be made by the inventor himself in our permanent collection (2001.100.4122).
