The World’s Most Popular Avocado — Grown in Your Own BackyardThe Hass Avocado Tree (Persea americana 'Hass') produces the same dark, pebbly-skinned avocados that account for over 80% of avocados sold worldwide — and for good reason. Tree-ripened Hass avocados have a rich, creamy, buttery flavor and a high oil content that makes them far superior to anything you’ll find at the grocery store. A mature Hass tree is a prolific producer, yielding hundreds of avocados per year, and its dense, glossy evergreen foliage makes it one of the most beautiful fruiting trees you can grow. Available in a standard grow pot or paired with a premium designer planter for an instant patio statement. Why Hass Is the Gold Standard Avocado World’s most popular avocado variety — the same Hass avocado found in grocery stores and restaurants worldwide; universally recognized for superior flavor and texture Rich, creamy, buttery flavor — high oil content delivers the smooth, indulgent texture that makes Hass the preferred variety for guacamole, toast, salads, and cooking Self-fertile — produces fruit without a second tree; a second tree (Type B variety such as Fuerte or Bacon) will significantly increase yield Prolific producer — a mature Hass tree can yield 200–500+ avocados per year Year-round evergreen beauty — dense, glossy dark-green foliage provides tropical aesthetic and privacy screening year-round Container-friendly — can be grown in large containers (25–30 gal) for patios and indoor spaces in colder climates Hardiness & Growing Zones USDA Hardiness Zones: 9–11 (in-ground); zones 4–8 with container growing and frost protection Zone 9: Hardy in-ground in most zone 9 locations; established trees can tolerate brief dips to 28–30°F; plant in a sheltered, south-facing location away from frost pockets; young trees are more frost-sensitive and should be protected Zones 10–11: Ideal conditions; vigorous growth with prolific, reliable annual fruit production; the classic avocado climate Zones 4–8: Grow in a large container (25–30 gal); move indoors or to a frost-free garage when temperatures drop below 32°F; place in the brightest available window or supplement with grow lights Sunlight: Full sun (8+ hours required for best fruit production) Soil: Well-draining soil is critical — avocados are extremely sensitive to root rot in waterlogged conditions; raised beds or mounded planting sites are recommended in heavy clay soils Mature size: 15–30 ft in-ground if unpruned; easily maintained at 8–12 ft with annual pruning; 6–10 ft in containers Years to fruit: Typically 3–5 years from a grafted tree; larger specimens may fruit sooner Pollination NotesHass is a Type A avocado and is self-fertile, meaning it will produce fruit on its own. However, planting a Type B variety nearby (such as Fuerte, Bacon, or Zutano) will dramatically increase fruit set and yield. Type A and Type B avocados have complementary bloom cycles that maximize cross-pollination.Planting & Care TipsPlant in the sunniest, best-drained location available. Avocados are extremely sensitive to overwatering and root rot — allow the soil to dry slightly between waterings and never let the tree sit in standing water. Fertilize 3–4 times per year with an avocado/citrus-specific fertilizer. Mulch heavily around the base (keeping mulch away from the trunk) to retain moisture and regulate soil temperature. Prune annually to maintain a manageable size and open canopy. Protect young trees from frost with frost cloth or temporary covering.Available Options 2–3 ft. — Grow Pot (Plastic) — well-rooted young tree in a standard nursery grow pot 3 Gallon — Grow Pot (Plastic) — established root system in a standard nursery grow pot 3 Gallon — Mexia Planter (Green) — 3 gal tree paired with a premium Mexia designer planter; ready to display on a patio or entryway 3 Gallon — Pallas Planter (Black) — 3 gal tree paired with a sleek Pallas planter in black 3 Gallon — Pallas Planter (Grey) — 3 gal tree paired with a Pallas planter in grey 3–4 ft. — Grow Pot (Plastic) — largest standard size; maximum head start; may fruit sooner after establishment
