Hatebreed came up through the Connecticut hardcore scene, and recorded acclaimed albums for the Victory and Universal labels before moving to Roadrunner for this 2006 record, which featured the debut of Integrity / Ringworm / Terror guitarist Frank “3 Gun” Novinec. Supremacy’s sonic assault took it to #31 on the Billboard charts, but there’s more to it than just piledriving riffs; Jasta’s personal statement (reproduced on the insert) is remarkable for its honesty and its quasi-Nietzschean philosophy, and the lyrics (e.g. “Mind over All;” “Supremacy of Self”) follow suit.
