Heal All (Prunella vulgaris v. lanceolata), also known as Selfheal, is a delightful, all-season performer — a resilient groundcover that quietly perks up gardens with purple flower spikes in late spring and early summer. Its ferny foliage remains lush year-round in mild climates, and its compact, mat-forming habit makes it ideal for filling gaps, stabilizing slopes, or even DIY turf mixes. Low-maintenance and adaptive, it thrives in sun at higher elevations and prefers partial sun in the Wasatch front valleys, but does require supplemental watering. Heal All tolerates occasional foot traffic, making it a charming choice for meadows, walkways, or pollinator-friendly lawns. Bees, butterflies, and even hummingbirds appreciate its nectar, while birds may snack on the seedheads. Plus, it has a rich history of medicinal use such including in treating wounds, sore throats, inflammation and fever.
