Summerian goddesses, the new series of oil paintings by artist Helen Rebekah Garber, depicts Sumerian goddesses as eternal protectors of the earth. In Sumerian theology, these godd esses are both protectors of the natural world and are at the same time entwined with it—they are literally made up of the earth they protect. The series is a feminist analogy for the entwining of a mother’s body and the earth. Both need protection and care to flourish. Show more
