This colourful tote bag is made from hemp featuring Hmong design and stitching. Hemp is naturally grown and long lasting - being a sustainable fabric and more in use now than ever before. The Hmong people are an ethnic minority group living in many areas of South East Asia. However they are mostly remembered for their forced involvement in the Vietnamese war. Hmong motifs traditionally symbolised different stages of the artists life. The snail like pattern represents family. The upright triangles represent mountains (strength). Hemp facts: Hemp is a drought resistant crop and uses 4 times less water than cotton and grows much faster. It yields 3 times per year as compared with cotton which is a once a year harvest. Because it has a deep tap root, it returns 60% of the nutrients back into the soil. It has better aeration and prevents erosion.
