They are striking birds; their huge wingspans and deep squawks make their evolutionary link to dinosaurs intuitive. Even after DDT demolished a generation of water birds, their population is strong from coast to coast. You can help to protect these graceful animals by advocating for strong regulation of agricultural chemicals and industrial waste disposal and conservation of important wetland habitat.
