For earliest starts, begin indoors 6-8 weeks prior. Heuchera seeds can be slow to germinate and will require about 3-4 weeks in full light. Press 8-10 Ruby Bells heuchera seeds into the soil without covering. Do not let the soil dry, as heuchera thrives in consistently moist and fertile conditions and will require a proportionate amount of water to the sunlight it receives. Plants will benefit from some shade in gardens with intense summers. When transplanting seedlings indoors to outdoors, it is essential to gradually acclimatize them to their new environment (harden off). Water regularly. Regularly deadheading the flowers will encourage new flower stalks to come on. In some cases, this can encourage the plant to produce blooms into the fall. To overwinter, apply a thick layer of mulch above the roots each fall. Don’t worry about cutting them back, as their foliage will help to protect the crown and roots. Heuchera does not always need fertilization as they are relatively light feeders. However, in barren soils, light applications of quick-release fertilizers will undoubtedly encourage better blooming. The best thing to do is to mix in a healthy amount of well-rotted compost into the soil before planting them out in the springtime. About Ruby Bells Heuchera Garden Seeds Ruby Bells can be evergreen in warmer climates, but the leaves will die back when exposed to freezing temperatures. Heuchera sanguinea, or commonly known as Alum Root, Coral Bells, or Firefly, is native to the Pacific Northwest from British Columbia into Northern California. Heuchera grows along steep and rocky cliffs, slopes, and mountainsides. This cultivar is celebrated for its blooms, whereas other popular varieties of heuchera are cultivated for their leaves. The name ‘Heuchera’ refers to Johann Heinrich von Heucher, a botanist, physician, and expert of medicinal plants at Wittenberg University in Germany in the early 1700s. Heuchera is tolerant to deer grazing as well as to drought and salt, once established. Heuchera is not considered toxic to humans or animals as far as has been reported. Tips From Our Gardeners "I love heuchera for how multifaceted it is. The flowers are gorgeous but the foliage is just as attractive. When it is done blooming or if flowers are used for bouquets, the remaining plant still plays a beautiful part in the overall landscape." - Lara Wadsworth, True Leaf Market Writer Ruby Bells Heuchera Seeds Per Package: 25 pelleted Seeds 100 pelleted Seeds 500 pelleted Seeds Non-GMO Ruby Bells Heuchera seeds are available for Fast Free Shipping on qualifying orders.
