Heuer, founded in 1860 in St-Imier, Switzerland, has been making the industry's best chronographs for 165 years. However, the brand also produced all manner of neat dashboard clocks, stopwatches, and...pedometers? That's right! This awesome midcentury mechanical pedometer is everything you'd expect from a Heuer product: Housed in a 50mm black plastic case with an acrylic crystal, it features a multi-color red, white, and orange dial in concentric rings with dual central arrow hands for tracking running distance calibrated in miles and 1/10ths of a mile. Complete with its leather tang with metal clip for attaching to a belt loop or other piece of clothing, it dates from a time long before the smartphone made step counting a digital cinch. German-made and shipped with its correct box, this neat little mechanical object from one of the world's best watchmakers would do just as well adorning a desk or shelf as it would out on the running track. However you use it, there's no doubt that it's simply a cool design object.
