Few mountains are as recognizable as Cerro Fitz Roy, known locally by its Indigenous name, Chaltén, meaning the smoking mountain. More often than not, its granite spires are wrappe d in cloud, revealing themselves only in brief moments before disappearing once again.This photograph was taken from the opposite side of the valley after a long hike, looking across toward the crown of the massif as the weather shifted. For just a few moments, the clouds lifted enough to expose the summit before closing again. It was one of those fleeting scenes that reminds you why patience is often the greatest reward in the mountains.Patagonia has a way of teaching that the landscape doesn't perform on command.
