230 pp. The novel on which MGM based its production starring Van Johnson and June Allyson. Everyone who has ever dreamed of trading the headaches of civilization for a magic island which offers love, happiness and simple, abundant living, will be fascinated by the story of what happened to Alec Brooke who actually found a paradise that surprised even his wildest dreams. Forced down by a Jap submarine, Alec and the crew of the Catalina Flying Boat spend hours floating on the glaring waters of the steaming Pacific. Partly to ease the strain of empty waiting and hoping, and partly because he is intrigued by their whereabouts, Alec begins to reminisce about his home town in Iowa and about his boyhood dream of a tiny Pacific island which he once discovered on an old map.
